Asus Rog Crosshair VI Hero is ASUS’ new premium ATX motherboard for AMD’s Ryzen platform. The motherboard supports Ryzen 3 up to Ryzen 7, which essentially means a 4 core CPU up to an 8 core CPU. Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero comes with a black and silver design and should satisfy even the most demanding enthusiast in terms of performance and appearance. ASUS ROG series of motherboards have proven to be the most reliable choice in the past with Intel’s CPUs and this time it is no different. Everything you want from a motherboard is implemented on this product.
But let us get to the actual specifications:
Memory & BIOS
Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero features 64 GB of DDR4 Memory Support up to 3200 Mhz. The problems with Ryzen BIOS compatibility are in the past and almost all boards support up to 3200MHz memory speed, including this board.
The board supports SLI and Crossfire configuration with 2 x PCIe 3.0 x16 lanes for the GPU as well as 3 x PCIe 3.0 x1 slots. The PCIe slots are designed for maximum safety and ensure that the graphics will be fully protected with ASUS’ “Safeslots”.
Supreme Audio Support
ASUS’ SupremeFX audio technology ensures excellent audio performance for even the most demanding users, which of course supports 7.1 surround audio. If you happen to have a 5.1 or above system, you will be surprised by how well the audio delivery actually is. Sonic Studio III is ASUS’ new audio tuning utility, which allows you to configure your audio input and output both in Windows and in games to your liking.
ASUS has implemented its AURA Sync technology which allows RGB control and configuration between all Pc components like GPU and even peripherals like mouse and keyboard. You can choose from a variety of 9 control options form static and breathing to music effect, which changes colors depending on the music being played as well as color changing depending on the CPU/GPU temperature. A supreme number of colors and combinations are available to choose from. RGB led strips are also included via the two onboard 4-pin headers, to let you configure your color preferences.
Asus Rog Crosshair VI Hero has 1 M.2 Socket for AMD Ryzen CPUs and 1 M.2 Socket for AMD’s older Athlon CPUs. The board supports up to 8 SATA 6 Gb/s ports, which provides plenty of headroom for both Hard Drive storage and SSDs.
The motherboard comes equipped with a ton of USB connectivity options, featuring 6 x USB 3.1 ports, 6 x USB 2.0 ports, 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports and 1 x USB 3.1 front panel connector.
CPU Cooler Compatibility
Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero supports both new AM4 coolers as well as older AM3 cooling solutions. So if you have an older AM3 cooler lying around you can put it on your new motherboard by getting the upgrade pack to AM4.
Overclocking has never been easier on any motherboard. With memory support up to 3200 MHz and overclocking support with the click of a button, even a non-experienced user can maximize CPU performance via overclocking pretty easily without having to worry about adjusting complicated settings. Just set the voltage and multiplier and off you go!
ASUS Pro Clock technology lets you even adjust the base clock beyond 100 and up to 158 Mhz which allows for extra performance while tuning the base clock frequency.
Overclocking stability is guaranteed with the Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero as the motherboard features premium thermal compounds for maximum overclocking stability.
Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero comes equipped with a plethora of utilities which you can download on their website here.
Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero is a premium board for premium users and enthusiasts. This board is not intended for the vast majority of users, who just want a decent board for their low to mid end CPU.
If you are thinking of buying, for example, a Ryzen 3 1300x or even a Ryzen 5 1500x it makes no sense spending 270$ or 209 pounds on an X370 motherboard. If you want a motherboard, which will just accommodate your CPU you would be better off buying a good B350 motherboard, which will cost a lot less (around 100-120$) and will do the job for you.
The Asus Rog Crosshair VI Hero is for the enthusiast who wants to get maximal performance out of his overclock and this means getting either an All-in-One water -cooler or even a Custom -Built water-cooled system. Check out my post, where I compare air -cooling and water cooling. If you are on a budget and would like to build a decent system, it is a better idea to spend the extra money on a Graphics card if you are a gamer or on a better CPU if you are a content creator who does heavy CPU workloads.
The Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero is by far one of the best if not the best X370 motherboard on the market. From compatibility to overclocking to features, there is nothing that is missing on this particular board. If you spend as much as 270$ on a motherboard, you want the best experience there is and the Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero delivers exactly that, as Premium is the word that stands out when you buy this motherboard.
There really is nothing to complain about the product and for all of you Pc enthusiasts who want always the best you can get, you will not get a better motherboard for your Ryzen CPU. ASUS is confident that their product is the best because they provide a 3-year warranty and will immediately deliver you a new board if it happens to be faulty. ASUS is the most known brand on the market when it comes to motherboards and their customer service is top notch, to say the least. Rest assured that you can not go wrong with the Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero.
