Peripherals for desktop computers are very important. They may not be the first priority to buy for many people, however, peripherals like a mouse and a keyboard are as important as the main parts that go into a Pc. If you are new to computer building and would like to know what the main Pc parts are that go into a rig, check out my post here.
When you are buying a gaming rig and have accumulated your parts, the next thing you will probably do is buy a mouse and a keyboard (if you do not already own them). There is no way a Pc can be functional without a mouse and a keyboard.
For gamers, however, there is another essential component that is vastly important. A headphone and a microphone. Gamers want the best experience possible when gaming and that is why many focus on a good headphone and a microphone, especially if they are streaming their games or playing with friends on TeamSpeak.
Buying a microphone and a headphone separately can be an expensive buy, so many gamers are on the lookout for a combination of both, a headset. It is a headphone with a detachable microphone, which allows the player to both hear and speak at the same time, without having to spend money separately on both components.
I have spent hours and hours trying to figure out what the best gaming headset for under 100$ is because I always was budget-oriented and I did not want to spend too much money on peripherals, too. I am better off spending the extra money on a better graphics card or even a CPU, for that matter.
When it comes to gaming headsets, there are very few that can be compared to the quality of Kingston’s Hyper X series of headsets. Designed with comfort in mind, the Hyper X Cloud II really feels like a cloud when you put it on. This particular headset comes equipped with a virtual 7.1 surround sound, which can be activated with a click of a button. Even after extensive hours of use, this headset will never feel uncomfortable when you have it on. The memory foam ear cushions and leatherette padded headband ensure that you have the best experience possible, without having to worry about pain or disturbances, no matter how many hours you play.
The whole headset is built out of solid aluminum, which is indicative of its build-quality. The Kingston Hyper X Cloud II has been designed to provide passive noise cancellation. Once you put it on, you can barely distinguish outside noises.
The headset comes preinstalled with 53mm Hi-Fi drivers, which essentially means that the headset is plug and play. You just connect it via USB cable to your Pc and you are ready to go. No additional software configuration is needed and no driver installation.
The sound quality is impressive on the Hyper X Cloud II. Even on maximum volume, you can distinguish every sound and it sounds crystal clear. There is no other headset on the market at 100$ or less, which delivers such a crystal clear sound. Maximum volume can sometimes be a pain to listen to, due to the fact that it can get really loud and uncomfortable and the user often ends up turning down the volume in order to not be disturbed by the bad sound configuration. With the Hyper X Cloud II, rest assured that you can turn up the volume to the maximum and enjoy it. You can control the volume by a small control panel, where you can adjust:
- The headphone’s volume
- The microphone’s volume
The bass, however, while being adequate and “fitting”, sometimes can feel a little bit underwhelming. If you are used to heavy and loud bass, you would be better off looking for other headsets like the Razer Kraken Pro. While being worse than the Hyper X Cloud II, its bass is quite impressive and really heavy-sounding.
Compatibility is a very important feature of headsets. Many times, driver installations and software can cause compatibility issues with different devices, such as PS4, Xbox or Mac.
With the Kingston Hyper X Cloud II, this is not an issue due to its plug and play compatibility. You can even hook it up to your smartphone and go for a walk without any problem. In order to experience the headset to its fullest, although, connecting it to your Pc is the best solution because you can take advantage of the virtual 7.1 surround sound. The detachable microphone is also a great feature to have, as you can attach or detach it according to your liking dependent on the device you intend to use it with.
The Hyper X Cloud II, as his predecessor, the Hyper X Cloud, comes in a variety of designs and colors with its distinctive aluminum frame. The colors available are:
You can choose whatever color scheme you want. Every design looks great and I am sure that you will be satisfied with whatever you choose.
On the right, left and top you have the distinctive Hyper X logo which is ultimately an “H” with a wide “X” next to it. It is simple and visually appealing, in my opinion, On the edges of the Hyper X Logo on the top, there are shelves, which adds a touch of uniqueness to the visual aspect of the headset. On the bottom left, you can connect the detachable microphone, which is easily bendable
and can be customized in any position according to your liking. The fact that it is bendable, makes it less likely to break or malfunction.
Kingston has made a great effort to make the packaging reflect the premium product. The packaging feels like you have bought an expensive piece of jewelry, or at least, that is how I felt when I bought it. I remember showing it to my girlfriend and even she was impressed by the packaging.
The distinctive Hyper X logo on the top of the packaging, in combination with the appealing box inside of the package, really makes you pay attention to all the details. On the front and back, you can see pictures of the product along with an explanation of the features it comes with.
When you open it you see another box, which in my case, is red because I bought the red/black version.
Inside the square box, you see the headphone itself, the microphone, the small adapter –controller as well as another package which contains a bag where you can put things in (not sure why they included it, but it looks nice and it is good to have). Every component inside the box has its own place inside the box and can easily be put back in without problems.
Having bought the Hyper X Cloud II a year ago and have spent many hours using it as my gaming headset, I can easily confirm that the headset is impressive in all aspects from design and sound to compatibility and comfort. Even the packaging of the product looks impressive and is in a league of its own. I have never felt that the headset was sitting heavily over my ears. I also never experienced pain or discomfort while having it on.
The only reason why I give it a 9 out of 10 is that of its bass volume, which could be a little louder and more distinguishable.
I decided to buy this product, after watching so many positive reviews about it on the Internet. Everybody seemed to praise the Hyper x Cloud II and here I am, telling you the same. Try it out, you will not regret it!
